The President underlined that the role of our diplomatic service is very important today as Lithuania presides over the Council of the European Union and is elected to the United Nations Security Council.
"Responsibility for the state lies on the shoulders of each of you. We are a small nation and, therefore, have to move higher mountains, help our state prosper and be respected globally. We must show that we can and manage to do more than is expected. This is important not only for the diplomacy corps but also for the whole of Lithuania, its people, their security and well-being," the President said.
Lithuanian diplomats, according to the President, should act responsibly and in line with national interests. It is crucial to raise at an international level the issues of importance to Lithuania relating to energy security and cyber security, economy and trade, culture.
