Following the ceremony, the Ambassador and Director General discussed FAO’s main priorities working towards achieving sustainable development goals. José Graziano da Silva thanked Šlepavičius for Lithuania’s contribution to FAO’s activities and emphasized the importance of the international community’s fight against hunger and poverty.
The Ambassador conveyed an invitation from Lithuania’s Minister of Agriculture Bronius Markauskas to J. G. da Silva to participate in the international exhibition for agriculture and food industry AgroBalt in Vilnius in May 2018 and to attend a high-level political forum on combating food waste.
“AgroBalt is not only the largest specialized international exhibition in the Baltic states, but it also provides a platform for discussion among representatives of governments and businesses from different countries of the world working in the agriculture and agro-food industry, and agriculture specialists, who prepare political forums and conferences that meet contemporary needs,” said Šlepavičius.
Šlepavičius serves as Lithuania’s Ambassador to Italy, Malta and San Marino, and the Permanent Representative to FAO. In January-July 2018, Lithuania will chair FAO’s European Regional Group.
