On behalf of the European Parliament, President Antonio Tajani condemned the terrorist attacks in Spain - in Barcelona and the town of Cambrils. “We will not be intimidated by those who peddle violence and death,” the President said in a statement Thursday evening.
The EU and Spanish flags were at half-mast outside Parliament’s buildings in Brussels Friday and there was a minute's silence in commemoration of the victims at noon.
“My thoughts are with the victims of this terrible atrocity and their families, as well as the citizens of Barcelona. Tonight, Barcelona is close to the heart of all Europeans,” Mr Tajani said, expressing solidarity with Spain.
“The determination of the European Union in the fight against terrorism will not diminish. We will not be intimidated by those who peddle violence and death and we will face them down strengthened by our freedom, our unity and rule of law,” he said.
