“Lithuania has made a dramatic breakthrough in accelerating the process of accession to the OECD. We will continue our efforts in reforming the country in the hope to become a full member as early as next year”, said the Chancellor of the Government.

The OECD representatives were briefed on the amendments to the Forest Law regarding the consolidation of the state forest enterprises (SFEs), as well as legal proposals providing for the merger of road maintenance enterprises, which should result in a more efficient and transparent operation of state-owned enterprises.

Chancellor Milda Dargužaitė noted that those reforms were undertaken not only to help the country accede the OECD but also to foster national growth and efficient asset management.

According to Nicola Bonucci, OECD Director for Legal Affairs, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania is making significant efforts to become a member of the OECD. “We commend your achievements in the field of anti-corruption, state-owned enterprises, and the SFEs reform”, said Nicola Bonucci.

On 4 June 2015, the OECD Ministerial Council officially invited Lithuania to open formal OECD accession talks. The membership decision is hoped to be taken in June 2018.
