The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy with the guest from Japan discussed his working visit to Japan in early May, the opening of the new Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Fukuyama, the importance of promoting Chiune Sugihara’s heritage, and further steps to deepen bilateral cooperation.
Linkevičius expressed his pleasure at the fact that Japan had supported Lithuania’s aspirations to organize the ASEM conference “Women’s Economic Empowerment: Creating Equal Opportunities in the World of Work”: “Favourable environment for women to enter the labour market is important not only to national economic growth, it also undoubtedly contributes to the development of global wellbeing and social justice.”
Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Takisawa is attending the ASEM conference in Vilnius on May 25 and 26. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania co-organized the event with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour of Lithuania and Mykolas Romeris University. The Japanese Government pays great attention to women’s economic empowerment and is among the 9 ASEM countries the governments of which have supported Lithuania’s initiative to hold this international high-level conference.
