"I appreciate the visit of the Vice-President of the European Commission for competition. It is of utmost importance to share experience as regards the implementation of the competition legislation and competition policy making in the European Union", – said Head of Government Algirdas Butkevičius.
On competition policy, specific cases of its application in energy were discussed. "European Commission Vice-President informed of the formal decision to open an anti-trust probe against Gazprom. It is of crucial importance to Lithuania,"– said Prime Minister A. Butkevičius.
In 2012, gas prices in Lithuania were 35 per cent higher than in Germany or our neighbouring Latvia. Commission's antitrust probe is expected to provide clear answers regarding Gazprom's policy in some EU Member States. According to the Vice-President, the study should be completed by the end of the mandate of the European Commission. The Lithuanian Government is currently negotiating with Gazprom over fair gas pricing policy.
The present situation regarding Russia's discriminatory actions towards Lithuania's carriers was also discussed in the meeting with the European Commission Vice-President. "I trust we will shortly come up with a constructive solution of this issue", – said Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius.
