"Twenty three years ago today, on the night from October 2 to October 3, Europe was overjoyed to hear about the reunification of your country and nation after long decades of painful division. It was a deeply moving and unforgettable day for the Lithuanian people too: the unity of Germany gave them new hope and faith in a tomorrow that is free, peaceful and without dividing lines for their homeland and Europe as a whole," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
The President underlined that over these years Lithuania and Germany had created a strong relationship built on common values and mutual understanding. Today the two countries are working ever more closely and actively as partners and allies in advancing useful bilateral cooperation and effectively pursuing the well-being and security of their citizens.
