Prime Minister Skvernelis has noted that Poland is not only a neighbouring country, but also a highly important strategic partner. “We have a number of joint challenges that we must address urgently. For this, we need active communication and close cooperation. That would help us tackle problems that hindered successful development of bilateral relations in the past”, said Prime Minister Skvernelis during the meeting.
The bilateral meeting has discussed Polish minorities in Lithuania. The Prime Minister has pointed out that he had started his visits to the Lithuanian regions precisely from the region of Šalčininkai. The Prime Minister has also noted the interests of the Lithuanian communities in Poland, and has urged the Polish government to address them.
Prime Minister of Poland Szydło has emphasized that Poland and Lithuania are linked by economy, infrastructure projects, as well as security and Eastern Policy matters. She has thanked Lithuania for its support for Poland’s candidacy for the non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council, for Lithuania’s support for Poland to host EXPO 2022 in the city of Łódź, as well as for Lithuania joining Poland in its legal proceedings on OPAL (Nord Stream 2).
Prime Minister Skvernelis has invited Prime Minister of Poland Beata Szydło to pay a visit to Lithuania at her convenience, and has called upon more active communication and cooperation between Lithuania and Poland on all levels.
