"I would like to thank you for the growing cooperation between our countries and good relations. We will work for a continued successful development and strengthening of Lithuanian-Chinese political, economic and cultural relations", said the Prime Minister.
According to the Prime Minister, China is an important market for the Lithuanian export sector – last year, trade turnover amounted to 831 million euro, while the value of exports increased by 20.3 percent. The Prime Minister also noted that Lithuania is a country that is open to foreign trade and investment.
During the meeting, separate attention was given to discussing the potential cooperation between the two countries in the transport and logistics sectors. According to the Prime Minister, Lithuania boasts a well-developed transport infrastructure and a well-functioning services sector and therefore may be the right partner in connecting Chinese and European Union markets.
The Prime Minister pointed out that our country is famous for its high-quality dairy and meat products, most of which are exported to all parts of the world. "On this occasion I would like to thank the Chinese Government for issuing export certificates in 2016 for the export of the Lithuanian dairy products to China. We will look forward to offering you more of our produce", said Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis.
He recalled that 2018 had been announced the EU-China Tourism Year. The Lithuanian Tourism Marketing Strategy has identified China as a priority market. The year 2016 saw a 25 per cent year-on-year increase in the tourist flows from China. “We expect even better figures this year”, said the head of the Government.
Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the Chinese Parliament, also noted with appreciation the positive relations between the two countries as well as their prospects. The Chairman assured that he was fully aware that one of Lithuania’s strengths was its agricultural products and that he was looking forward to seeing more high-quality agricultural products on the Chinese market.
