During the debates, world leaders will discuss new support projects for the developing countries and the challenges faced while integrating these countries into the global economy. Millennium Development Goals that were approved 13 years ago must be implemented by the target date of 2015. Therefore, at this session the UN member states will seek agreement on new instruments to ensure sustainable growth in the world.
The President will deliver a speech at the debate of the UN General Assembly, calling the world's attention to barriers to the free choice of the nations, and will present Lithuania's experience. After rebuilding its statehood and joining NATO and the European Union, today our country became a donor with a lot of experience to share with those who are going through similar reforms and transformations, and can contribute to the democratic development in the EU Eastern Partnership countries, Afghanistan and other states.
The President will also hold bilateral meetings and informal talks with the heads of state from various countries of the world.
The visit includes a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Moldova, Iurie Leancă. The President and the Prime Minister will discuss preparations for the upcoming Vilnius Summit to be held in November. It is expected that Moldova's agreements with the European Union will be initialed at the summit. The Vilnius Summit is one of the major events of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council.
In New York, Dalia Grybauskaitė will present state decorations to former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and to Michael Philip Davis - initiator and organizer of donating the artistic legacy of the Lithuanian-born artist Arbit Blatas to Lithuania. The decorations were conferred on the occasion of the Lithuanian State Day on 6 July.
