The Minister presented security situation in the region putting emphasis on the threats caused by Russian activities that were related to the scheduled Exercise Zapad, also the ongoing propaganda and disinformation attacks. “Russia designs its actions to divide, therefore the Western countries have to come together and showcase unity in the face of both, Russia and other security threats,” R.Karoblis said. Germany is the lead nation of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion in Lithuania so R.Karoblis underscored the necessity to ensure deterrence and defence alike, and that requires enhance dallied presence in the region.
Minister also presented to M. Grübel Lithuania’s efforts in strengthening security and defence.
The delegation of the Ministry of Defence of Germany headed by M. Grübel is on a three-day visit in Lithuania. The guests will also visit the Lithuanian Great Hetman Jonušas Radvila Training Regiment in Rukla, meet with the Commander of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battlegroup in Lithuania, Lieutenant Colonel Christoph Huber, and the Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force’s Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf, Colonel Mindaugas Steponavičius.
The delegation led by the Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Ministry of Defence will also visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and are expected to visit the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania. The guests will wrap up their stay with a visit to the NATO Force Integration Unit in Lithuania and a meeting with its commander Colonel Jakob Sogard Larsen and his deputy Lieutenant Colonel Mindaugas Petkevičius.
