Mr Kirkilas noted that since its inception in 1952, the European Union has evolved and has grown in global influence and potential. The mere fact alone that one of its Member States decided to withdraw from the EU should not be treated as a crisis of the EU or, even worse, the beginning of its collapse, but rather as a new and inevitable stage in the EU’s evolution.
The EU’s current challenges and ways to address them was discussed on 17 March 2017, at 9.45 a.m. at the high level international conference titled 60 Years after the Treaty of Rome – Recharge Europe. The Conference, dedicated to marking the Treaty of Rome, was held in the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
The Conference, bringing together representatives of the EU institutions, politicians and civil society representatives of the EU Member States, will seek to find ways to increase the attractiveness and clout of EU and will take stock of the geopolitical realities and the ways to strengthen the EU’s internal and external security.
