R. Karoblis invited to step European cooperation with Eastern Partnership countries – Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova, particularly in such areas as capacity building and resilience to hybrid threats.
Other topics addressed in Brussels were EU-led military and civilian operations in Africa, the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean, and new European defence initiatives.
Lithuania is currently contributing forces to three military EU-led missions and operations: counter-piracy operation ATALANTA, EUNAVFOR MED Sophia, and the European Union Training Mission in Mali (EUTM Mali).
At the meeting R. Karoblis said that Lithuania will continue participating and increasing its contribution to the EU-led military and civilian missions and operations.
“The European Union has a vital role in finding solutions in the South where the challenges are about terrorism and migration,” R. Karoblis said.
The European Foreign and Defence Ministers also agreed to establish a military planning and coordination centre for a more efficient coordination and implementation of EU-led military training efforts and missions.
