“We highly appreciate our friendship with Germany and its solidarity, providing us with security guarantees. We thank the German troops for their leadership in forming a NATO battalion group in Lithuania,” said Linkevičius.
The Foreign Ministers also welcomed a substantive bilateral dialogue and discussed future challenges for the European agenda.
The Foreign Ministers stressed that in the face of the upcoming elections in member states of the European Union, as well in the context of relations of the new U.S. administration with the EU, NATO and Russia, the European unity was of major importance.
“Intensive work is ahead of us, but we agree that the relationship between the countries must be based on values and principles,” said Linkevičius.
Germany’s Foreign Minister promised to visit Lithuania in the short run.
Germany is Lithuania’s most important export market and is in third place in terms of investment volume.
