Cooperation between Northern Europe and the Baltic States is one of the core priorities of Lithuania. According to the Minister, this region is united through reliable partnership and the aims of promotion of democratic values, well-being of individuals and guarantee of security.
“We are like-minded partners seeking solidarity by tackling many challenges we face in our region and solving the issues of common concern to the international community. Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) has already become the example of regional cooperation at international level and a kind of an attractive political “trademark”. We must use it accordingly,” stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs Linkevičius.
The conference participants held discussions on the issues of interests of the region in the European Union, the impact of the US Presidential election and the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union on the region, the Eastern Partnership and relationship with Russia, the challenges brought by migration, maintaining core values and well-being, trust in the institutions and other matters. Such a meeting organised at the beginning of the year is a perfect opportunity to discuss and evaluate the achievements, challenges and plans of the cooperation between the Nordic countries and the Baltic States.
The conference was attended by the members of the parliaments of Lithuania, Norway, Finland and Sweden and other high-level officials, politicians, representatives of the academic society and non-governmental organisations.
