Minister R.Karoblis emphasised the importance of security and defence cooperation with Sweden to Lithuania and the Baltic states.
The Minister informed the Ambassador about the prospective deployment of a German-led NATO battalion in Lithuania and invited Sweden’s military personnel to take part in joint training with Alliance forces.
“Air Forces and Navies of Lithuania and Sweden are already developing cooperation, therefore Armies of both countries could also do more to work together. Participation in exercises in Lithuania would provide Swedish soldiers an opportunity to train not only with Lithuanian and but also NATO battalion soldiers,. That would be a beneficial experience for both countries’ military personnel,” Minister R.Karoblis said.
The meeting offcials also agreed to enhance the cooperation between Lithuanian and Swedish navies and air forces through exchange of maritime and airspace surveillance data.
According to Ambassador M. C. Lundqvist, both countries could also do more together in the format of the European Union in order to promote security of EU member states through increasing defence budgets and capability building.
The Ambassador of Sweden also conveyed to Minister R.Karoblis an invitation from the Minister of Defence of Sweden Peter Hultqvist to pay a visit to Sweden.
