The meeting participants highlighted the importance of further cooperation between Lithuania and Israel and considered the areas of further cooperation in the fields of education and science. Ambassador Maimon presented the activities in the field of education initiated by the Embassy. Particular attention was devoted to education of children with special educational needs. For the second year running, under the initiative of the Embassy of the State of Israel, education experts and coaching professionals from Lithuania and Israel have been engaged in active cooperation in the field of education of children with special educational needs. Mr Jovaiša, Chair of the Committee on Education and Science, stressed the need for new approaches in the educational system. He reported the need for more projects of this kind, as one of the priorities of the current Seimas is a reform of the Lithuanian pedagogical education and training system.
In response to strong concerns expressed by the Ambassador over the due commemoration of the Jewish victims of the Holocaust in Lithuania, Chair of the Committee on Education and Science stressed his readiness to put every effort to support the dignified commemoration of the names of the victims. The Chair of the Committee also shared the Ambassador’s view on awareness-raising and stressed that more attention should be paid to raising awareness about the history of Jews in Lithuania. He also supported the initiative of establishing a modern museum dedicated to the history of Lithuanian Jews in Vilnius.
