Following the secret ballot, the results of secret voting on Deputy Speakers were announced.
The Seimas decided to approve the following Deputy Speakers: Rima Baškienė (105 votes in favour, 15 against and 14 abstentions), Arvydas Nekrošius (82 votes in favour, 24 against and 27 abstentions), Gediminas Kirkilas (96 votes in favour, 20 against and 19 abstentions), and Irena Degutienė (101 votes in favour, 18 against and 16 abstentions).
The Seimas rejected the candidacy of Algirdas Butkevičius MP as a Deputy Speaker and the respective draft resolution by 66 votes in favour, 53 against and 14 abstentions.
Pursuant to Article 24(4) of the Statute of the Seimas and in view of the recommendation by the Speaker of the Seimas, parliamentarians decided to appoint Deputy Speaker Rima Baškienė as First Deputy Speaker of the Seimas. The Seimas Resolution on the First Deputy Speaker was adopted by 107 votes in favour to none against and 1 abstention.
Deputy Speakers of the Seimas are elected by secret ballot. The candidate is considered to be elected when he/she receives a majority of votes cast. The Statute of the Seimas prescribes that, on the recommendation of the Speaker of the Seimas, one of his deputies is appointed First Deputy Speaker of the Seimas.
