“We are close neighbours in the region, Finland is an important partner of Lithuania. The upcoming official visit of the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė to Finland is important for the development of our bilateral relations,” said Linkevičius.
The cooperation with Finland is becoming particularly significant for the strengthening of the region’s security, exploiting of advantages of the regional gas market, and development of transport infrastructure projects.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also expressed concerns over the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant at the EU border and the negative impact of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project on the EU’s energy security.
Lithuania and Finland hold promising potential for the existing dynamic economic cooperation – Finland is the seventh largest investor in Lithuania, the volume of trade is growing. Moreover, Finland is second among the Nordic countries according to the number of tourists visiting our country.
Linkevičius stressed the importance of close cooperation between the Nordic and Baltic countries. The meeting also discussed cooperation within the European Union, international threats, the situation in Syria, and relations with Russia.
Finland’s new Ambassador to Lithuania presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on 6 October.
