Even though the elections on 8 October were orderly and quiet, Lithuania notes with regret that some incidents of violence were not prevented from happening in electoral districts. Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns the incidents of violence and calls on the competent institutions to find and punish the perpetrators, and on all candidates, as well as political forces to refrain from any form of violence, to remain calm and to respect the will of the people of Georgia.
The elections have shown once again that Georgia is decisively moving toward a stable and strong democracy. It is necessary to ensure the continuity of the democratic process in a peaceful environment of political competition before and during the second round of the elections, as well as before the announcement of the final results.
Lithuania continues to support Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and will work closely with the new and democratically elected Government in Georgia.
