"I would like to express our gratitude for your support and understanding extended to Lithuania from its re-independence in 1990 to the present moment. The remarkable foreign policy achievements of Lithuania over the last two decades - membership in the European Union and NATO - would not have been possible without your strong and unwavering support, which was also decisive for the development of very close and intensive relations between our two countries," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
As the President emphasized, working for a strong, economically prosperous and unified Europe is the key task of Lithuania which holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first time. It offers new opportunities for even closer cooperation between Lithuania and Belgium.
