During the meeting, the Speaker of the Seimas expressed her appreciation of the close inter-parliamentary relations between Lithuania and Sweden and the possibility to discuss and jointly address matters of current importance. The Speaker of the Seimas highlighted the active format of cooperation of the Nordic and Baltic countries (NB8) and the opportunities it offered to coordinate the positions in the region in the context of today’s challenges. “The Nordic and Baltic countries can speak in one voice”, Mrs Graužinienė said.
The Swedish ambassador thanked the Speaker of the Seimas for her personal contribution to the development of bilateral inter-parliamentary relations. According to the Ambassador, she felt a strong interest of Lithuania to cooperate with Sweden and other Nordic countries. In her opinion, a firm platform for further development of relations on various levels was currently in place.
“Our countries are geographically close and must engage in active cooperation in order to fulfil our people’s expectations,” said the diplomat. Alongside the significant activities completed, the Ambassador noted a further potential for development in the areas of politics, economy and culture with the involvement of the Parliament, political parties and youth organisations.
At the meeting, the visit of the Swedish royal couple to Lithuania and its importance for further bilateral cooperation was also recalled.
While bidding farewell, the Speaker of the Seimas extended her wishes of success to the Ambassador and stressed that Ms Ruthström-Ruin would always be welcome in Lithuania.
