The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy and the Ambassador of Cyprus hailed the development of economic relations. In 2015, the turnover of trade between Lithuania and Cyprus increased by 60%. Cyprus ranks 5th for Lithuania’s foreign direct investment into Cyprus.
In the meeting, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister expressed the country’s support to the negotiations for the reunification of the island and expressed his hope that the problem would be solved in the nearest future. “In the current context, the reunification of Cyprus would send a strong and positive signal not only to the people of Cyprus, but also to the entire region,” noted Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.
Linkevičius also highlighted the importance of a unified EU stance regarding Russia and support for Ukraine.
Lithuania and Cyprus established diplomatic relations on 3 December 1992. The Ambassador of Cyprus to Lithuania Andreas Zenonos presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on 5 September 2012.
