The President and the Ambassador reviewed the priorities of cooperation between the Nordic countries and Baltic states. Dalia Grybauskaitė underlined that it was necessary to strengthen contacts across security, defense and economic areas. She pointed out that Lithuania highly valued Denmark’s support to key energy projects in the region.
Among the other issues discussed were bilateral economic ties. Last year, trade between Lithuania and Denmark increased by 6.5 percent. The President said that it was important to keep up the dynamics.
Gintė Bernadeta Damušis is also accredited to the Republic of Iceland. Speaking about the relationship between Lithuania and Iceland, the President stressed the need to continue expanding economic, business, scientific, and cultural contacts.
Dalia Grybauskaitė highlighted the great significance of dynamic ambassadorial work with Lithuanian communities in both Denmark and Iceland. At the present moment, more than 11 thousand Lithuanian citizens live in Denmark and 1600 are residents in Iceland.
Gintė Bernadeta Damušis, born in 1956, is a graduate of political sciences and history. She joined the diplomatic service in 1992, served as Lithuanian ambassador to Austria, NATO and Canada. She was national coordinator of Lithuania’s civilian assistance efforts in Afghanistan and Director of the Lithuanians Living Abroad Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
