Linas Linkevičius noted that Lithuania respected the decision of the British people to leave the European Union and looked forward to further close cooperation in various areas.
“Our close cooperation must continue. Lithuania highly values the UK’s principled position in the fields of democracy, human rights and freedoms, relations with Russia and Eastern partners, and security,” Minister Linkevičius said.
David Lidington said he appreciated Lithuania’s solidarity that the UK felt both during the referendum campaign and after the result had been announced.
David Lidington underlined that partnership ties between Lithuania and the United Kingdom should be retained as they would continue to be important despite changes in EU-UK relations in the future.
The Ministers agreed to use every possibility as well as existing bilateral and multilateral formats to preserve and further develop the close partnership between Lithuania and the United Kingdom.
