During the discussion on Keeping Europe safe, Mr. Linkevičius pointed out that the European Union and NATO must, to the best of their capacities, help Ukraine get stronger and withstand the political, military and economic pressure from Russia as this affected the security of the entire Europe.
“Keeping Europe safe is currently the key issue of the European security,” Minister Linkevičius said.
Also, Mr. Linkevičius called for a broader approach towards the role of sanctions imposed on Russia.
“Sanctions serve not only as a means of pressing Russia to seek peaceful conflict regulation in the Eastern Ukraine; it is also the price paid for the aggressive actions taken in breach of the international law. If we did not apply these measures, we would encourage Russia to continue with their aggressive policy,” Mr. Linkevičius said.
