Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas, Vydas Gedvilas in an interview with News Radio, said that he believed there was no basis for an interpellation against the Minister of Health Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis.
He told that interpellation's procedure is a normal parliamentary control and he also he stated that he was not aware of the way his political group would vote.
Last week, a group of lawmakers representing the opposition of Liberal Movement and the Homeland Union –Lithuanian Christian Democrats, registered an interpellation against Andriukaitis. The minister has two weeks to provide answers but was already pledged to do so on Thursday.
The Members of the Parliament asked the minister about the reason for the healthcare institutions' funding that has been cut by 11%, even though the budget of the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund is currently 135.8 million litas, which is, nevertheless, still more by 39 million litas than the last year.
Within two weeks Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis must submit a written response to the Seimas speaker and the Seimas Members. If the minister's reply is seen as incompetent, the Seimas will have to prepare a draft resolution that might be adopted by a majority vote. The minister will have to resign if the resolution is passed by more than a half of the all Seimas Members.
