While addressing the security situation in the Baltic Sea region V.Urbelis expressed his delight that both Canada and Lithuania were supporters of further NATO transformation and enhancement of collective defence.
The Lithuanian Defence Policy Director underscored that Lithuania welcomed increased Canada’s involvement in ensuring security of the eastern allies and invited Canadian military personnel to joint NATO forces training in Lithuania. “Lithuania is prepared to ensure all Host Nation Support necessary for allied forces deployed, including Canadian,” V. Urbelis said.
During the meetings the Lithuanian and the Canadian representatives underlined the importance of assistance to Ukraine where both countries collaborate in the Joint Commission made up of representatives of Canada, Lithuanian, UK, U.S. and Ukraine. Both sides agreed that reform in Ukraine’s security and Defence was needed to make sure the assistance is used effectively.
The meetings also addressed bilateral defence cooperation of Lithuania and Canada, the situation in the Arctic and United Nations peace support missions.
