On 5 April, Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Inara Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, in Kroņauce close to the Lithuanian and Latvian border. The Speakers addressed issues of bilateral cooperation, regional policy, Nordic–Baltic co-operation (NB8) and Eastern Partnership. The interlocutors also focused on strengthening of regional security, solutions to migration problems and preparation for NATO's Summit in Warsaw, which is due on 8–9 July.
Furthermore, the parliament Speakers of the neighbouring countries discussed the preparations for the Unity Day of the Balts. The events to celebrate the kinship of both nations are scheduled for this autumn.
Regular meetings of the Speakers of the Lithuanian and Latvian parliaments in the border towns have now become a fine tradition and an example of good neighbourhood in coordination of bilateral matters and issues of regional foreign policy.
