Bronius Pauža, Deputy Chair of the Committee and chair of the meeting, took note of the complicated situation that Lithuanian farmers were facing in the dairy sector and pointed out that a low level of cooperation, low farm gate milk prices and direct payments, which are below the EU average, take the last hope away from Lithuanian dairy farmers.
The Members of the Committee on Rural Affairs were interested in funding perspectives for agriculture in the new Financial Framework after 2020. The MPs inquired whether investment support measures would remain, whether Lithuania would reach the EU average in terms of direct payments and whether funding for agriculture would not decline.
Commissioner Hogan informed that negotiations on the new financial period had already begun. Therefore, efforts should be made on both municipal and ministerial levels in protecting the interests of Lithuanian farmers in all areas.
