According to Kačinskas, Lithuania seeks to deepen cooperation with Germany in various fields. "We want to see more of Germany in Lithuania and more of Lithuania in Germany," said the Lithuanian diplomat.
In the meetings, officials also discussed the EU-NATO cooperation. According to Kačinskas, Germany plays an important role in the implementation of decisions taken at the NATO Summit in Wales, as well as in the preparation for the NATO Summit in Warsaw this summer. Lithuania expects Germany to play an active role in ensuring security in the Baltic States and the region.
The representatives of the countries expressed their opinions and position on the migrant crisis and its solutions. They noted that it was important to address the root causes of Europe's migration crisis and that the EU should more actively contribute to the settlement of international conflicts.
The officials also discussed the conflict in Ukraine and the relationship with Russia. Kačinskas said that it the normalization of the relationship with Russia would only be possible if Russia fulfilled its obligations undertaken under the Minsk accords. The international community must continue to dedicate attention to Ukraine avoiding another protracted conflict in the future.
During the political consultations, Kačinskas also held meetings with the Political Director at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany Andreas Michaelis and Advisors on Foreign Policy at Bundestag.
