The Presidents of Lithuania and Estonia will discuss bilateral relations, regional cooperation, topical issues in the sphere of energy as well as on the EU and NATO agenda, and Lithuania's upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union.
According to President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Estonia is one of the most important partners of Lithuania. The two countries achieved freedom together, now they are united by common goals. Lithuania and Estonia maintain vibrant bilateral relationship and share responsible approach to financial policies and to the future of the region and the whole of Europe. Lithuania and Estonia jointly seek to ensure energy security of the Baltic States, successful economic development in the region, and to promote innovations.
President Toomas Hendrik Ilves' entourage in Lithuania will include a delegation of Estonian business people. On May 28, the two Presidents will open a bilateral business forum. Lithuania and Estonia are actively intensifying their economic ties. Estonia is Lithuania's seventh largest trading partner and the seventh largest investor in Lithuania, which ranks second in terms of foreign investments in Estonia.
The Lithuanian and Estonian Presidents will also meet with the community of Užupis artists, visit the Art Incubator and unveil the Užupis Constitution in the Estonian language.
During his visit, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will pay tribute to the victims of January 13 in Antakalnio cemetery, meet with the heads of the parliament and the government, deliver a speech at a Seimas meeting, lay flowers on the grave of Jonas Basanavičius in Rasų cemetery and visit Vakarų Laivų Gamykla (Western Shipyard) in Klaipėda.
This will be the eighth meeting between the Presidents of Lithuania and Estonia. The heads of both countries regularly discuss the issues of importance to the Baltic States at an annual tripartite summit of the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian Presidents. The last such meeting was held in December 2012 in Raudondvaris Castle near Kaunas.
