"With this contribution, our country contributes to the initiative of the Council of Europe's Development Bank and demonstrates solidarity with other European countries and institutions in addressing the pressing problem of refugees," Finance Minister Rimantas Sadzius said in a press release.
Set up by the Council of Europe's Development Bank on Oct. 2 this year, the fund will finance refugee reception and transit centers where they will be provided shelter, food and health care, as well as refugee integration projects in the bank's member-states.
The fund is planned to include a total of 20-25 million euros. The bank transferred 5 million euros to the fund, with other money expected from voluntary contributions of member-states and international organizations.
