At the invitation of President Dalia Grybauskaitė, the President of Finland, Sauli Väinämö Niinistö, will make a state visit to Lithuania on May 14-15. During their meeting, the Presidents will discuss bilateral relations, economic contacts, Lithuania's upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union, and the Nordic-Baltic (NB8) cooperation.

According to President Dalia Grybauskaitė, cooperation between Lithuania and Finland is growing notably stronger. Both countries are united by their responsible approach to financial policy, energy security and by their shared interests in the Baltic Sea region and Europe. Finland has initiated the highest number business projects in Lithuania, and it is Lithuania's ninth largest direct foreign investor - which further highlights the rising intensity of bilateral economic cooperation.

On May 15, in Klaipėda, the two Presidents will open a new combined heat and power plant fuelled by biomass and household waste and constructed by Fortum Heat Lietuva, a joint Finnish-Lithuanian enterprise.

President Sauli Niinistö will be accompanied by a delegation of Finnish business people who will take part in a bilateral business forum to discuss investment opportunities and enhanced economic cooperation.
