President Dalia Grybauskaite met on Thursday with Lithuania's national team, who are leaving for the 23rd Olympic Winter Games in South Korea.

The two teenage sons of LaVar Ball, a flamboyant Los Angeles businessman who has made headlines due to his feud with US President Donald Trump, landed in Lithuania on Wednesday night to play for a local basketball club that they see as a stop on their "journey" to the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.

Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on provisional data, in 2016, against 2015, the value added created in the sports sector decreased by 4.5% and amounted to EUR 263.2 million, or 0.8% of the country’s gross value added. The largest negative influence on the change was made by a decrease in the value added generated by the enterprises engaged in manufacture of transport equipment and gambling and betting activities.

Euroleague Basketball and Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) have launched a new study programme, Sports Business MBA by EB Institute in Kaunas, Lithuania. The new partnership comes 10 years after the initial creation of the Euroleague Basketball Master in Sports Marketing and Communication. The deadline for online applications for the studies is 28 August.
