Physical education is one of the priorities of Andžej Stelmachovski elementary Polish school in Old Trakai. Numerous sport activities take place in the school, but table tennis has the oldest traditions here. The school has a very active table tennis club 'Tezaurus', whose members proudly represent not only the school, but also the Trakai district and the country during various competitions.
A summer tennis camp 'Table tennis - sport, health, communication' took place in the Polish school in Old Trakai this month.
According to Irena Stefanovič from the school of A. Stelmachovski, the camp was funded by the local government of the Trakai district and was targeted at students from 4-9 grades. The young sportsmen have trained for 4 hours a day. Classes were led by the principal of the school, tennis trainer Romuald Gžybovski and Halina Grinevič. A friendly tournament was organized with tennis players from A. Ratkevičius School of Sports in Eišiškės on June 18 which was successful for the children from Old Trakai. Childred had also the possibility to visit Vilnius during the duration of the camp.
An international table tennis tournament has been organized in Old Trakai already for 11 years. According to the school, it is the only tournament in Trakai district in which more than 100 young sportsmen take part.
Currently students are preparing for the twelfth International Table Tennis Tournament 'Old Trakai 2015'.
Young tennis players from Old Trakai will take part in international tournament in Łomża at the end of the month.
