At the 2018 Winter Olympics, Lithuania is represented by nine athletes: four biathlon skiers, three cross-country skiers and two alpine skiers. No athlete has ever won a medal in the Winter Games in the history of independent Lithuania yet.
According to the President, the participation of Lithuanian athletes demonstrates that we have excellent athletes on a par with the best athletes of the world. Their achievements inspire each of us and promote Lithuania’s name in the world.
“We have as many as nine athletes who will spare no effort in competing for Lithuania. Whatever are the results, we have always supported and will continue to support our Olympic team. The opening of the Winter Olympics in this region is a celebration of peace and friendship. Only clean and honest sport is worth recognition and medals,” the President said.
On Saturday, the President visits the Olympic Village where she will meet with the Lithuanian Olympic athletes and watch the start of Lithuanian biathlon skiers.
The Winter Olympics is held for the 23rd time. This year, 3000 athletes from 95 countries of the world will compete in 15 sports for 102 sets of medals.
