During her visit, Dalia Grybauskaitė will meet with President Moon Jae-In of South Korea and executives of the company “Samsung”. She will support Lithuanian athletes in the Olympic Winter Games, which are due to start this week.
In Seoul, President Dalia Grybauskaitė and President Moon Jae-In will discuss the international security situation and strengthening bilateral relations in the areas of economy, business and innovation. The LNG terminal “Independence”, a symbol of Lithuania’s energy independence, was built in South Korea. In addition, one of the most developed country in the world is Lithuania’s second largest trade partner in Asia. Over the last five years alone, trade between the two countries grew five-fold.
Later on, the President will leave Seoul for PyeongChang, the capital of the Winter Olympic Games where she and other world leaders will attend the Olympics opening ceremony. In the PyeongChang Olympic Village, the President will meet with the Lithuanian athletes, watch the start of the Lithuanian biathlon skiers and attend a reception hosted by the President of South Korea.
In PyeongChang, the President will also meet with the executives of Samsung Electronics Company. The President will visit the innovative stand of the world’s second largest company of technologies and will talk to its executives about investment and business development possibilities in Lithuania.
The Winter Olympic Games will be held for the 23rd time. This year, 3000 athletes from 95 countries of the world will compete in 15 sports for 102 sets of medals.
Lithuania will be represented by nine athletes: four biathlon skiers, three skiers and two mountain skiers. No athlete has ever won a medal in the Winter Olympic Games in the history of independent Lithuania yet.
