Lithuania lost to Latvia: FIFA World Cup Qualification

Lithuania tackled the Latvian team in World Cup 2014 qualification and lost 2-1. As a result, Lithuania fell down to the fifth place in Group G, growing the gap between the leaders, as well as from the tickets to Brazil.

The match Lithuania versus Latvia took place in Riga. The first minutes of the match suggested that the game is going to be close and tough for both teams. Latvians started the match with a pressure on Žydrūnas Karčemarskas's goal, and within the first 20 minutes of the match, Nauris Bulvitis scored for the home team.

After that, Lithuania started to search for opportunities to return a goal, but, unfortunately, 22 minutes after the first goal, Arturs Zjuzins breached the Lithuanian defense again and scored the second goal for Latvia. The scoreboard in Riga showed 2-0 to Latvia. Two minutes later, Lithuanian football players finally found its way to the goal. On the 44th minute of the match Deivydas Matulevičius scored for Lithuania. That was the last goal of the match and within 90 minutes Lithuania lost the match with the final score of 2-1 to the Baltic brothers from the north. It was Lithuanian fourth defeat in the group stage and the second loss in a row.

The Latvian Squad: Andris Vanins, Vladislavs Gabovs, Nauris Bulvītis, Kaspars Gorkšs, Vitalijs Maksimenko, Alans Sinelnikovs, Juris Laizans, Ritvars Ruginis, Artūras Zjuzins, Valerijs Šabala, Artioms Rudevs.

In the next match, that will take place in Vilnius on 10 September, Lithuania will face Lichtenstein. In their previous meeting Lithuania won 2:0.
