The exhibition is created by the final year students and recent graduates, young researchers from the institutions, which are the members of a global design association Cumulus. The association is celebrating the 25th anniversary this year, and the exhibition was conceived for the occasion. The works of art are traveling to KTU from Milan, Italy, where they were exhibited at the gallery "Fabrica del vapore" (Eng. Vapour Factory).
"Food, sustainable consumption, food wasting, attitude towards food, food history and future are the topics expressed by the works at the exhibition. The artists are offering different solutions and interpretations; the variety of projects is outstanding", says Rūta Valušytė, Head of KTU's Design Centre.
According to her, design, which is interdisciplinary by nature, i.e. connecting technologies, art, social sciences and business is the best tool for offering unexpected solutions for global problems. This is well understood in the Western world, where design is a crucial element in strategic decision making.
The topic of Design to Feed the World coincides with that of EXPO 2015, which is taking place in Milan.
The exposition at KTU will consist of posters and video projects. Those attending the opening will be able to hear the lecture Design Today by Alessandro Biamonti of Polytechnic University of Milan.
Polytechnic University of Milan, which is one of strategic partners of KTU, is an organiser of the exhibition: "It is through this partnership that we have the privilege to welcome the part of the exhibition Design to Feed the World in Kaunas", says Valušytė.
The showcasing of the design exhibition at KTU is an initiative of Design Group at M-Lab – non-traditional research and innovations incubator created by KTU with partners. M-Lab will encourage creative analysis processes by establishing dynamic research environment and focusing on the topics in fields of eco-systemic design, while developing interdisciplinary practical research, which combines art, science and technologies for solving future challenges.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday, 1 October, at 4.30pm at KTU's Santaka Valley (K. Baršausko Street 59, ground floor). The exhibition will be open to the public all October, during University's working hours: 9am–5pm.
