Prof. Dr. Donatas Čygas headed the festive meeting, during which Prof. Habil. Dr. Edmundas Kazimieras Zavadskas, the Head of the Department of Construction Technology and Management of Civil Engineering Faculty, introduced Prof. H. Adeli, the new Honorary Doctor and drew attention to his exceptional personality. H. Adeli received his Ph.D. from Stanford University at the age when he was just twenty-six. Last year Thomson Reuters placed the Professor H. Adeli among the "world's highly cited researchers''. According to E. K. Zavadskas, on the list of the most citied researchers, H. Adeli is more than twice ahead than even Nobel Prize winners are.
''The active researches, inspiring surroundings and creating tremendous value-added products not only for their own country, but also for Science in its broadest sense, are the greatest assets of the universities worldwide. One of such researchers is Hojjat Adeli. I am delighted and proud of the fact that Professor Hojjat Adeli established and maintains long-lasting, constructive relationship with the researchers of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, and is organizing a research group for implementation of joint research projects, - in his welcoming speech said Prof. Dr. Alfonsas Daniūnas, the Rector of VGTU.
Accepting the regalia of the VGTU Honorary Doctor, H. Adeli stressed that scientific potential of Lithuania is inversely proportional to the size of our country. In particular, with regard to engineering. He also stated that VGTU is one of the leading universities in the area, and the scientific journals, published at the University, are of the highest quality.
"Every engineer should be proud of this specialty, because it is a profession of the future," - said Professor H. Adeli, urging young people to choose the specialty of an engineer – a person, creating smart future, where we will live soon.
The Professor is being particularly appreciated for his exceptional contributions to the areas of the computational intelligence, knowledge engineering and computer systems, as well as for his research, published innovative articles and books. In 2010, the American Society of Civil Engineers granted H. Adeli the title of the ''Engineering Legend". The Professor is the winner of numerous awards and honorary titles. H. Adeli maintains long-lasting, constructive relationship with the researchers of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, he is also organizing a research group for joint research projects. He is the Member of the Editorial Board of five science magazines of VGTU.
