VGTU takes place from 51st to 100th from 475 ranked universities for architecture, and from 101st to 150th for civil and structural engineering from 486 evaluated institutions of higher education. There are no more universities from the Baltic countries among the best, in these subject areas. In total, ''QS World University Rankings by Subject'' ranked more than 3,500 universities, but only 894 institutions of higher education reached the top list, for 36 individual study programmes.
"High achievements of civil engineering and architecture depend on the University's long years of experience and efforts in these study areas. The international rating obliges us to continue our efforts; therefore, we devote a lot of attention to the fundamental subjects, strengthening our links with business and social partners. We are cooperating with our partners and reviewing study programmes and their modules on the annual basis, as well as adjusting our studies to the latest requirements of the market and to the needs of our students," - said Alfonsas Daniūnas, VGTU Rector.
The international rating coincides with the Lithuanian one – the magazine "Rankings" for the study areas evaluated VGTU as the best university in Lithuania for architecture and construction engineering as well as construction technologies.
The "QS World University Rankings by Subject" ranked the institutions of higher education according to their reputation among academics and employers, as well as the indicators in research citations. The promoters of the ranking claim that the subjects with their own specifics influence the percentage of the indicators, e.g. the numbers of scientific articles in medicine and in humanitarian sciences are different, employers rank the graduates of economics and philosophy in a different way, too, and so on.
Last year there were no universities from Lithuania on the list of international ratings ''QS World University Rankings by Subject''. They covered TOP 200 best universities for 30 different study programmes.
