94% of all internet users in Lithuania are constantly reading news on web portals. According to this indicator, Lithuania is first in the EU.
'It's not the first time when the residents of Lithuania stand out among other EU countries as active readers of online media. Fast, convenient and free access to all the interesting information encourages people to regularly use the internet. Anyway, this is the specificity of the Baltic states: internet media are also very popular in Estonia and Latvia, which are 2nd and 4th in the EU,' says Ieva Žilionienė from Information Society Development Committee under the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
It is estimated that 79% of internet users in Lithuania use the third-generation mobile telephony (3G), which gives our country second place in the EU; 74% use electronic banking (7th place in the EU). Lithuanians are more than usual likely to benefit from social networks than Europeans (12th place in the EU).
Although a relatively small percentage of internet users of Lithuania do online shopping - only 36% that gives the 25th place in the EU. In terms of the overall level of using web services our country is ranked as seventh in the EU.
