The campaign helped to collect 40,000 new books which will be donated to the country's libraries. The campaign was held for the fourth time, people were invited to donate Lithuanian authors' books to public and school libraries. Books were also given to Lithuanian schools in Belarus, Poland, Latvia and Russia (Kaliningrad Oblast).
"A Christmas of Books has become a movement uniting all people of Lithuania. It is important that this year the campaign helped to enrich our libraries and spread the Lithuanian word where it is extremely important to foster it. A book has become a meaningful, sincere and public-spirited gift," the president of Lithuania said.
The initiative was widely supported by foreign embassies, cultural institutions, business and public organisations, publishers and authors.
A Christmas of Books events travelled from the Presidential Palace to all Lithuanian libraries inviting readers to meet Lithuanian writers, attend literature, music and advent afternoons.
