On the second day we had a number of excursions. We joined our partners from Germany and went to explore Caltanissetta. We saw the Ccathedral, Triton Fountain, Church of San Sebastiano and St Michael, the gorgeous theatre, museum of a famous Italian sculptor. Later that day we travelled to the resort town called Cefalu. In the evening we were taken by bus to Palermo, where we strolled along the narrow streets and enjoyed a typical Italian dinner before picking up our Czech friends at the airport. Unfortunately, we were all extremely tired and felt sleepy on the way back to Caltanissetta, so we got to know each other only on Tuesday.
The following day we had a trip to Agrigento. It was a really blazing day (+36 in the shade)! But our team was happy, because in Lithuania at that time the temperature was below zero. Agrigento, housing the remains of colonial palaces that date back to around 500 BC, is an absolutely gorgeous place. It was one of my favorites from the whole trip as I felt like in Ancient Greece. Later on we had a perfectly divine lunch in a local fish restaurant. As the 1st course we had a seafood starter that included octopus, prawns, mussels, salmon. The 2nd course included seafood risotto and ravioli. The following dish was sword fish. For dessert we ate juicy watermelon. After this we were so full that we found it hard to get on the bus. That day we had one more treat - the major part of Lithuanian pack went swimming in the sea.
On Wednesday we had a master class on table decoration, so we learnt to beautifully carve vegetables and fruits. It was an incredibly exciting experience! After lunch we had a tour in Mazzarino with our guide - Signor Rino. We had a cooking session in a big modern restaurant where we all together learnt to cook Italian specialities: pizza with potato and onions, rice balls with meat called "arangini", and ricotta cakes.
On the final day in Caltanissetta we had an international evening, when partners showed presentations about formal dinner manners, formal dinner, wedding traditions, autumn festivals. From our partners we heard many interesting things. For example, in Turkey children were not allowed to eat lunch in the same room with adults, the German and the Czech wedding ceremonies are similar to ours. Our group presented the traditional Lithuanian autumn harvest festival and treated all the partners with Lithuanian bread drink "gira" as well as cheese with honey and homemade jam. Many project partners were especially interested in our dried herbs, mushrooms, fish. Afterwards we had an official dinner all together. This is when we could practice our formal dinner manners. We all felt like in a real restaurant dining with "elite".
In the morning of the next day we were all very sad, because we had to say "good-bye" to all our friends, who where leaving for airports in different parts of Italy. We were all very grateful to teachers and students of Istituto di Istruzione Superiore "Sen.A.Di Rocco" for organizing such an unforgettable stay.
On our way back home we spent two days in Catania, where we enjoyed the beautiful view of the volcano Etna, went swimming in the sea. The whole trip was great fun, both meaningful and fascinating. But above all, we made new friends and I hope to meet them soon, now in Lithuania.
