In 2014-2015 Lithuanian national scholarships of the name of Kazimieras Būga will be granted to 6 students studying Lithuanian language in Poland, Latvia, Czech Republic, and Hungary.
'Linguistic organizations functioning abroad are the embassies of Lithuanian culture. Their lecturers and students are ambassadors who spread the knowledge about Lithuania and help to develop bilateral relationsm,' said the Minister of Education and Science Dainius Pavalkis.
People who were awarded with the scholarships study Lithuanian language and culture in Warsaw University, Jagiellonian University, Charles University in Prague, Eötvös Lorand University in Budapest, Masaryk University in Brno, and the University of Latvia.
The scholarship reaches 1041 litas (301 euro) per month. Kazimieras Būga scholarship should encourage interest in the Lithuanian language and contribute to the spread of these studies and the knowledge about Lithuanian culture and Lithuania itself among foreigners.
Since the beginning of the scholarship in 2007, 36 students have been granted scholarships for studying Lithuanian language in 9 countries: Poland, Latvia, Czech Republic, Italy, USA, Russia, Finland, Germany, and Israel.
Lithuanian and Baltic studies are taught in about 10 Lithuanian centres abroad. All in all there are about 40 Lithuanian centres in in the world where students can study Lithuanian and Baltic languages and culture of these countries.
