The signing ceremony was attended by Lithuanian Ambassador to the Czech Republic Aurimas Taurantas, US Ambassador Andrew H. Shapiro, Lithuanian laser manufacturing company Ekspla Director Kestutis Jasiunas, American and Czech partners.
The project will be implemented by a consortium of the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the US company National Energetics and the Lithuanian company Ekspla.
The significance of the project was underscored by every participating party – scientists, businesspersons, Lithuanian and American ambassadors, and the Government of the Czech Repbulic.
Under the USD 40 million worth project, an ultra-high intensity laser system will be created at the European scientific research facility near Prague.
The system will be ten times more powerful than similar ones created before. It will be used in plasma and high energy density physics, molecular, biomedical and material sciences research, as well as in particle beam acceleration.
