As every year, the International Carousel Week was held at the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) Faculty of Transport Engineering on March 20–31 this year, in which 28 students from Finland, Netherlands, Austria, Slovakia and VILNIUS TECH participated.
The event took place remotely (the 1st week) and face-to-face (the 2nd week).
The “Sustainable Logistics” course was taught to the students by VILNIUS TECH Department of Logistics and Transport Management lecturers Assoc. Prof. Kristina Čižiūnienė, Prof. Aldona Jarašūnienė, Prof. Darius Bazaras, Assoc. Prof. Ilona Jaržemskienė.
The event was held via contact in the new VILNIUS TECH “Plytinės” Building (Joint Science Laboratory Center). At the opening of this event, Prof. Oleg Prentkovskis (Dean of the Faculty of Transport Engineering), and Aušra Anderson (Head of the International Programmes Group), gave welcoming speeches and introduced the students to the activities of the university and the faculty.
During the entire event, the participants were divided into groups of 4–5 people, where they had to perform a task related to the possibilities of using intermodal transport in order to ensure sustainable logistics, sharing their experience and the knowledge they had and received during the lectures.
During breaks between “logistics” classes, students had the opportunity to “touch” the sciences of “transport engineering” – micro-mobile vehicles, e-racing, 3D printed motorcycles and more were explored. The Head of the Transport Engineering and Logistics Laboratory Pavel Ževžikov and his team were responsible for these activities.
During the event, students received a lot of valuable experience and information from business representatives. Edmundas Daukantas (Transport and logistics business consultant), Antanas Šimelis (Head of the company AD REM TRANSPORT, President of the Lithuanian Logistics Association), Dr. Justas Nugaras (Adviser to the Minister of the Ministry of Transport and Communications) shared practical knowledge with the students.
