The meeting was officially opened by the Political Deputy Minister of Education of Taiwan, LURK President, VU Rector Prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas and Eric Huang from the Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania.
“What have we learned from past few years and its crises? We ascertained the importance of science, scientists, and global scientific community. Close ties, sharing knowledge and information, effective cooperation let us in a historically distinctive period adapt and solve pandemic threats. While political cooperation is sometimes limited by internal or external challenges, scientific cooperation is solidified by will for knowledge, truth, and better world” says prof. R. Petrauskas.
Director General of the Department of International and Cross-Strait Education, Dr Nicole Yen-Yi Lee, presented the Taiwan higher education system and programs for semiconductor talent cultivation. Reports were also read by representatives from many of the best universities in Lithuania and Taiwan.
The purpose of the visit is to discuss the possibilities and priorities of future cooperation between Taiwanese and Lithuanian universities.
The Taiwanese delegation will also walk around the old campus and visit the VU Life Sciences Center and the Center for Physica Sciences and Technology, where they will get to know the scientists and see the laboratories. Later, the guests take part in a guided tour of the Old Town of Vilnius, led by a VU guide.
The visit takes place before Vilnius opens its representative office in Taipei.
