This year’s QS ranking rated and gave high positions to VU law (301–340), educational sciences (301–350), and chemistry (551–600) subjects. The fields of medicine, economics, and econometrics jumped from 401-450 to 351-400.
In the field of humanities, VU’s top field, for the fifth year in a row, is linguistics, which ranked 251–300 this year, while in the field of physical sciences, physics and astronomy remain the best-rated subjects (301–350 place). For the third year in a row, chemical engineering is also among the high-ranking subjects (351-400 place). The field of biological sciences and studies made it to the top 500 in the world.
According to the H index, which measures the significance of the research, the top-rated subjects were physics and astronomy (75 points out of 100) and physical sciences (70.9 points), as well as statistics and operations research (67.9 points), pharmacy and pharmacology (65.4 points), business and management (64 points), and psychology (60.5 points). According to the number of cited VU’s scientific publications, the university is leading the field of medical studies and science, scoring 79.1 points.
This year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject assessed a total of 1543 institutions in the world, 51 subjects in 5 fields of science and studies: arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, physical sciences, social sciences, and management.
The ranking rates universities based on the following criteria: academic reputation, employer reputation, number of citations, and the H Index, which aims to measure the productivity of researchers and the impact of their work on the world. Of the criteria, the assessment of academic reputation has the greatest impact. Based on this indicator, VU’s best-rated lecturers are linguistics professors.
